You know, one of these days I'm going to make a mix composed entirely of songs by artists █████ and I know personally. It will include steelbrassnwood, of course, not to mention folks like Andrew Lienhard, Mike Skliar, the Pale Imitations, the Bogmen, the Knockout Drops, Lungs of a Giant, Whisperado, Gogol Bordello, the Barracudas, and the Lords of the New Church.
And certainly not least, The Rogers Sisters.
The Rogerses are a trio consisting of actual sisters Jennifer and █████ Rogers, plus the invaluable Miyuki Furtado on bass. (Jennifer is the lead vocalist, more or less, but everyone contributes.) I used to work with Miyuki, and I'm always delighted to get updates from the band on their latest release or European tour or what have you.
They'll be playing this Saturday at Coney Island at the Siren Music Festival. It's free, so get yer butts down there! (Some band called Scissor Sisters is headlining.)
If you want to get some feel for the Rogers punky, poppy sound, check out their video for "Emotion Control," off their latest album The Invisible Deck (which I highly recommend). Having known Miyuki in cubicle days, I just can't get enough of this video. (You'll have to suffer through a commercial first.)
