Our local Greek Orthodox church has been gearing up for its annual Greek Festival, which begins today. Two mornings ago I was walking to the subway when I spied the strangest sight. The street in front of the church was impassably clotted with a mixture of hearses, black limousines, colorful funeral wreaths, and disassembled carnival rides on flatbed trucks. It was breathtaking. I only wish I'd had my camera.
